Questions
1.) Your cheek cell is an example of an animal cell. Compare this animal cell to the Elodea plant cell you studied. What differences were you able to observe, both in general (size, shape, etc.), and in terms of cell parts present?
The Eloda cell had chloroplast while the human cheek cell did not, the cheek cell had a pair of centrioles and the Eloda cell didn't. The Eloda cells were rectangular and had cell walls while the human cheek cells didn't/weren't.
2.) What differences do you know about between plant and animal cells that were not apparent from observing the cells through the microscope?
Plant Cells: Cell Wall present, Rectangle, One large vacuole, Chloroplast, No plastid, Cell membrane and cell wall, No cilia
Animal Cells: No cell wall, Irregular shape, Many vacuole, no chloroplast, plastid, just cell membrane, cilia
3.) Choose 6 organisms from the same phyla and create a dichotomous key to classify them.
Mollusca
1.) Does it have a complex eye with a lens?
Yes: Cephalopoda
No: Question 2
2.) Hatchet-shaped Foot?
Yes: Bivalvia
No: Question 3
3.) Does this organism go through the process of torsion?
Yes: Gastropoda
No: Question 4
4.) Is its shell in 8 segments?
Yes: Polyplacophor
No: Monoplacophora
